Spices From India

My brother and his partner have been to Goa in India for a two-week vacation and just returned back. They very kindly brought me back some wonderful spices & herbs that I can add to my baking and cooking. I am advised to go steady on the dried chillies as they are hot, hot, hot! The vanilla pods that they brought back are huge and plump, now I have the perfect recipe marked out for one of these, “my Grandmas egg custard”. She would visit on a Tuesday and how I loved to come home to a fresh baked egg custard for teatime! Now for the rest of Saffron, cumin, cardamom, ginger cloves etc, I know I will be finding use for these pretty soon too!

Lucky You! Lovely selection of mixed spices and herbs. Good advice about the chilli pepper. We have a huge container, I expect it will take years to go through them. And look at those vanilla pods!

Hi Pixie, wow a huge container of chilli pepper, lucky you :) Its lovely sprinkled over homemade cheese biscuits before baking - yum!

Hi Aparna, they had a great time thanks and couldn't get over the beautiful colours of flowers, birds, plants and deep blue sky and water. Small world, I bet you enjoyed your 10 yrs spent living there! :) I can't wait to try all these spices & herbs out. The cloves are so much pungent in smell than I can get here in the uk so fabulous and this goes for the rest of them too! :D

Thanks ladies for calling by always lovely to *see* you!
